France. Circa 1150.
10 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches. Vellum, written in well executed transitional 12th century Gothic book hand, double columns, 48 lines. Illuminated capitals. The wide margins contain signe-de-renvoi (graphic symbols marking a cross-reference) and retain the pin pricks used as a guide for ruling.

Vellum, written in brown ink, double columns, 32 lines to the page. Historiated initial (decorated with designs that have a narrative or symbolic purpose) contains a well executed Biblical character against a gold background. Margin decoration, ivy vine.
